Sending Direct Messages
Direct Messages, or DMs, are private, one-on-one conversations between you and another account, separate from anything that appears publicly on either of your profiles.
- Tap the message icon in your sidebar, or on someone's profile directly.
- Search for the person you want to message and select them from the results.
- Type your message and hit send — you can also attach images, GIFs, and voice notes alongside text.
By default, messages from accounts you don't already follow may land in a separate requests view rather than your main inbox, until you actively accept the conversation, which helps keep unsolicited messages from strangers out of your primary view. If you'd rather skip that filtering step entirely, you can turn off DMs from people you don't follow altogether from your privacy settings, meaning only accounts you already follow back will be able to message you at all.
